1968, President Thieu of Viet Nam personally called Minnesota Pastor Herb Peters who supported the 198th Brigade in opening seven schools. President Thieu stated,
"What you have done has accomplished so much more than hundreds of patrols, ambushes, and search and clear missions ever could. By focusing on children, you have begun to rebuild faith that Americans are concerned about the good people of Viet Nam. You have done more to support our National Objectives than we have been able to accomplish in years. On behalf of our children and all of the people of Viet Nam, thank you."
